- Time-stamped data is accepted at face value—even when incomplete, altered, or unreliable. Simple issues like syncing errors or missing logs go unchecked.
- This kind of digital evidence confusion leads to wrongful convictions. And it happens more often than people think.

The Digital Innocence Initiative is expanding across the country, bringing critical resources into the hands of public defenders and investigators:
- The Digital Evidence Toolbox – A free, defender-focused hub of practical guides, case-tested strategies, forensic validation tools, and expert briefs.
- Training & CLE Programs – Targeted education on cell site science, cloud subpoenas, photo metadata, messaging apps, and more.
- Expert Partnerships – Support from forensic professionals and technologists who understand the courtroom—not just the lab. Together with public defenders, we establish Digital Evidence Review Units (DERUs) to close critical gaps in the justice system and strengthen defense.”
